PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Pittsburgh Panthers scored runs in their final four at-bats and turned a one-run lead into a 7-0 victory over the visiting Virginia Tech Hokies in ACC action Thursday night at Charles L. Cost Field.

Pittsburgh (19-31, 8-20 ACC) drew six walks off Tech starter Sean Keselica and managed to plate four of them. Jacob Wright drew three of those and crossed the plate in the first – on an Alex Kowalczyk sac fly; the fifth – on a wild pitch; and in the sixth – on RBI single by Boo Vazquez. Eric Hess also reached on a walk in the sixth and scored on a Charles Leblanc RBI single.

Wright’s fourth walk of the night came in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded to plate Jordan Frabasilio and push the Panthers lead to 5-0. Vazquez and Ron Sherman each came home in the eighth to finish off the home team’s scoring.

Tech (26-25, 12-15 ACC) was held to four hits, one more than the team’s fewest this season. The Hokies were held to three hits versus Toledo on February 28 (game 1) and at Miami on April 12. The Hokies were also shut out for just the third time this year – the last time was March 20 versus Clemson (10 innings) and also on February 28 (game 2) against Toledo.

Erik Payne was the only Hokie with two hits, while Tech was hitless in nine at-bats with runners in scoring position.

The two teams will continue the three-game ACC series with the second game of the set on Friday with a 6 p.m. start.
