The weekend series: Virginia Tech currently sits at 7-8 in the ACC and is in a three-way tie for second place in the Coastal Division at the midway point of the 2015 schedule. The Hokies travel to Coastal Division leader Miami to start the second half of the ACC slate, who holds an 11-4 mark in the league and holds a 10-2 record at home against Tech.

Perez is the nation’s Ironman: Tech’s Alex Perez is one of four seniors in DI baseball to have started every one of his team’s games since stepping foot on campus. Entering conference games being played this weekend, Perez’ 204 consecutive starts is the longest consecutive streak in the nation and the longest ever to start a Tech career. Of his 204 starts at Tech, 144 have been at second base, 56 have been at shortstop and four have been on the mound.

Hokies winning the close ones: Just over halfway through the season, Tech is already 8-5 in one-run games, opposed to 5-10 during the 2014 season. When it comes to ACC games, they were 3-10 last year and are 4-2 so far in 2015. Another trend for Tech is its success on Friday night/Game 1 of the ACC series. The Hokies are 3-2 at the midway point after going 2-8 all of last year.

Another solid start to the ACC: The Hokies have started the past three seasons with a 5-4 mark in the conference - the best start ever to an ACC season. Twice the Hokies have started 4-5 and in those prior four seasons, weekend No. 4 has always been a precursor to how the rest of the year progressed with Florida State and Virginia providing the opponents those weekends. This season, it was Florida State, who took 2-of-3, but the 6-6 mark was only bettered by the 2013 Hokies who started 7-5. At the midway point, 8-7 (2010) was the best start, second was 7-8 (2013, 2015).
