The weekend series: Virginia Tech currently sits at 6-6 in the ACC, which ties for the second best start to an ACC with the 2010 squad, while Georgia Tech comes to town with a 5-7 league mark. The three-game set will be the start of five straight home games for the Hokies, while the Yellow Jackets will end an eight-game road swing with the series.

Perez is the nation’s Ironman: Tech’s Alex Perez is one of four seniors in DI baseball to have started every one of his team’s games since stepping foot on campus. Entering conference games being played this weekend, Perez’ 200 consecutive starts was the longest consecutive streak in the nation and the longest to start a Tech career. Of his 200 starts at Tech, 142 have been at second base, 54 have been at shortstop and four have been on the mound.

Hokies winning the close ones: Just over halfway through the season, Tech is already 7-4 in one-run games, opposed to 5-10 during the 2014 season. When it comes to ACC games, they were 3-10 last year and are 3-1 so far in 2015, losing their first on Sunday to No. 7 Florida State. Another trend that hopes to continue is Tech’s success on Friday night/Game 1 of the ACC series. The Hokies are 3-1 after four weekends and won just 2 of 8 all of last year.

Another solid start to the ACC: The Hokies have started the past three seasons with a 5-4 mark in the conference - the best start ever. Twice they have started 4-5 and in those prior four seasons, weekend No. 4 has always been a precursor to how the rest of the year progressed with Florida State and Virginia providing the opponents those weekends. This season, it was Florida State, who took 2-of-3, but the 6-6 mark is only bettered by the 2013 Hokies who started 7-5.
