BLACKSBURG - For the second time this season, the Virginia Tech baseball team entered extra innings in a scoreless tie. However, this time the Hokies lost the contest as they fell to Clemson 4-0 in the first of a three-game ACC series Friday night at English Field.

A true pitchers' duel saw each starting pitcher go at least eight frames and not surrender a single run. Clemson's Matthew Crownover went 8.1 innings, allowed five hits and struck out seven. Tech's Sean Keselica tossed eight scoreless frames, allowed four hits, three walks and struck out a career-high nine batters. With the effort, Keselica has run his streak to 20 straight consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.

Clemson (10-10, 3-4 ACC) stranded runners on second and third in the fourth, fifth and seventh. In fact, in the seventh, they had them there with just one out, but Keselica got a strikeout and a grounder to end the threat.

Tech (11-11, 4-3 ACC) also had a couple chances - a runner on third with one out in the second and a runner on second twice with just one out, but couldn't get a clutch hit.

In the bottom of the ninth, it appeared the Hokies had their leadoff batter Alex Perez on second with a double, but it was ruled that he failed to touch first base.

Clemson used a grand slam off the bat of Chris Okey in the top of the 10th to provide all of its offense in the extra frame, while the Hokies got runners on second and third in the home half, but still couldn't get a runner across the plate.

Neither starter factored into a decision as Drew Moyer (1-0) picked up the win out of the pen and Luke Scherzer (1-1) took the loss.

The two teams will play the middle game of the series on Saturday with a 2 p.m. first pitch.
