Two Hokies named to ABCA All-Region team
Brendon Hayden and Mark Zagunis earn spots on the second team

BLACKSBURG - Juniors Brendon Hayden and Mark Zagunis have been selected to the ABCA Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Atlantic Region Second Team, announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association Wednesday evening.

Hayden, a Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, native was one of four Hokies to start all 53 games this season and was named to the second team as the designated hitter. He was second on the team with 19 multi-hit games and tied Zagunis for the team-lead with 12 multi-RBI games. His 16 doubles, seven home runs, 43 RBIs, 99 total bases and .497 slugging percentage all led the Hokies.

Zagunis, who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of this year's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, adds his second team catcher selection to a number of accolades he has received during the 2014 season, which includes an All-ACC Second Team pick and his Johnny Bench Award semifinalist honor.

The Cinnaminson, New Jersey, native also started every game this season and either led the team or was second in almost every major category. Zagunis' .330 average, 69 hits, 44 runs and 23 multi-hit games were team-highs, while his 10 doubles, 89 total bases and .426 slugging percentage were second to Hayden.
