The weekend series: Tech continues its 121st season of baseball by hosting the NC State Wolfpack in a series that will ultimately decide one of the final postseason teams that will make the ACC Tournament. The Hokies, who are just 20-38-2 in the series against the Wolfpack, do own a 12-10-1 record in games played in Blacksburg.

Zagunis named semifinalist: The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced today the 15 semifinalists for the prestigious 2014 Johnny Bench Award presented by BaseballSavings.com and junior catcher Mark Zagunis is on that list. Ballots will be sent to a national voting panel at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 3, 2014. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 17th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 26, 2014.

Zagunis’ career numbers are climbing: Entering the weekend, Zagunis has compiled 209 career hits becoming just the seventh Hokie to reach the 200-hit milestone as a junior and has already moved into the fifth spot for most on that list (chart right - which also shows the number of hits each player finished with as a junior).

Zagunis notched his 200th hit with a single in his second at bat at Georgia Tech on Friday night, May 2. It was just his third plate appearance since collecting hit No. 199.

Also, entering the weekend, Zagunis ranked in the top five in the ACC in seven career categories (among active players - min. 250 ABs). Those include third in hits per game (1.30), batting average (.339), total bases per game (1.89) and stolen bases (50), fourth in runs per game (0.87) and slugging percentage (.494), and fifth in runs scored (140).

Zagunis is also the only ACC player with 20-plus multi-hit games and 11-plus multi-RBI games, while he ranks in the top 10 in five categories for the 2014 season.
