Zagunis named Academic All-District, again
The junior now moves on to the Academic All-America ballot for second year in a row

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech junior catcher Mark Zagunis has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District III First Team for his efforts in both the classroom and on the diamond this season. It is the second straight year Zagunis has been selected to the team and he will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Zagunis enters the weekend with a .320 batting average and has started in every game this season for the Hokies, 44, and has made 152 straight starts. He leads the team with 38 runs scored and 55 hits and is second in batting average, slugging percentage (.407), on-base percentage (.420), doubles (10), total bases (70) and stolen bases (14).

He is the only Tech player to have more than 30 runs scored and 30 RBIs (32, third on the team) and is just one of two players in double figures in both multi-hit (18) and multi-RBI (10) games, while adding eight multi-run scoring games.

The Cinnaminson, N.J., native owns a 3.36 GPA while majoring in sociology at Virginia Tech.
