BLACKSBURG - Appalachian State's Sean Mason held the Virginia Tech offense to just two hits, allowed two other baserunners and faced just two batters over the minimum to lead the Mountaineers to an 11-0 victory over the Hokies in nonconference action at English Field Tuesday night.

Tech (18-21-1) got a leadoff single from Saige Jenco in the first inning and saw him steal second. Ricky Surum was then hit by a pitch and both moved up a base on a Mark Zagunis flyout.

However, Mason got Brendon Hayden to line into a double play and then retired the next 18 batters in a row as his team was giving him plenty of run support - scoring at least one run in the second through fifth frames.

After building an 11-0 cushion with three runs in the top of the eighth, Mason walked Sean Keselica to start the bottom of the inning, but after a fielder's choice, another double play ended that frame.

Logan Bible led off the ninth with a single and moved all the way to third before Mason finished the game with a grounder to second.

Appalachian State (15-23) was led by Preston Troutman and Bradley Morton, as each had two hits and three RBIs.

Mason improved to 1-1 with the win, while Tech starter Alex Perez dropped to 1-2 with the loss.

Tech will be back in action on Wednesday as the Hokies welcome Campbell to English Field with a 5:30 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
