BLACKSBURG -- Virginia Tech head baseball coach Patrick Mason has announced the details for the Hokies’ seventh annual “Baseball Night in Blacksburg,” and this year’s honored guest will be former Tech coach Chuck Hartman, who has been inducted into five different Hall of Fames during his career, including the most prestigious - the American Baseball Coaches Association - which happened almost 10 years ago to the day, Jan. 3, 2004.

The event, which is sponsored by Bull and Bones Brewhaus and Grill, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 6-9 p.m. in the West Side Stadium Club of Lane Stadium. Tickets cost $75 per person ($35 for kids 13 and under) and can be purchased by calling the Virginia Tech baseball office at (540) 231-3671.

In addition to a question and answer session with Hartman, “Baseball Night in Blacksburg” will include a dinner catered by Bull and Bones, a silent auction highlighted by various professional sports and Virginia Tech items, and a chance to meet the entire Virginia Tech baseball team a week before the Hokies open their 2014 season in Charlotte, N.C.

For those interested in a more intimate experience, a private, open-bar reception with Hartman and other notable figures will be held from 5-6 p.m. prior to the public portion of the evening. Access to the private reception can be gained by purchasing a ticket for $200. A Home Run Package of eight tickets can be purchased for $1,500.

“I am extremely honored to have Coach Hartman, one of the all-time greatest baseball coaches in the country, be the guest speaker at our 2014 baseball night,” Mason said. “I’m truly humbled as I’m just starting my head coaching career to see everything he’s accomplished in his almost 50-plus years of coaching. For all that he’s done in his career, to be able to count him as a member of our Hokieball family, is a great honor. Chuck will surely keep everyone entertained when he shares his legendary stories and countless memories of his time here at VT.”

Hartman, who coached more seasons as a Division I head baseball coach than any other man in the profession, compiled an overall record of 1,444-816-8, which placed him fourth in all-time wins among Division I coaches at the time he retired (he is now sixth). His final record at Tech in 28 seasons was 961-591-8 as he became Tech’s winningest baseball coach in 1987. He guided Tech to more victories than any other coach during the university’s athletics history.

Hartman’s No. 1 jersey and number were retired on Sept. 22, 2006, as his became the first baseball number to be retired at Tech. His Hall of Fame inductions include the ABCA Hall of Fame, the NAIA Hall of Fame (1989), the Tech Sports Hall of Fame (2002) and the Gaston County (N.C) and Guilford County (N.C.) Hall of Fames (1979 and 2001).

All proceeds of the banquet will go to Virginia Tech baseball and the Hokies’ efforts to improve various aspects of their program. Recent efforts included the building of an indoor baseball facility beyond the left-field foul pole at English Field, which is available for the team’s use year-round, and enhancements to English Field, which included the addition of artificial turf and expanded dugouts just prior to the start of the 2012 season.
