BLACKSBURG, Va. – Former Virginia Tech outfielder Tyler Horan was named an honorable mention All-American by CollegeBaseballInsider.com and Louisville Slugger for his efforts during the 2013 season and announced by CBI on Friday.

Horan adds this honor to his numerous accolades he received during and after the Hokies’ season, most notably a second team All-American selection by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, which made him just the 14th Hokie to be named an All-American.

His exploits certainly could not go unnoticed as he led the Hokies with a .342 average with 88 hits, which tied for the fifth-most in a single season at the school in a single-season Tech record 257 at bats. He hit 26 doubles (second-most all-time), four triples and tied for the team-lead with 11 home runs. His 155 total bases and .603 slugging percentage also led the team.

Among the nation’s leaders at the completion of the season, Horan was 181st in batting average, 39th in runs (58), 73rd in runs per game (0.94), 28th in hits, fourth in doubles, 11th in doubles per game (0.42), 47th in home runs, 74th in home runs per game (0.18), 102nd in RBIs, 42nd in slugging and 12th in total bases.

Drafted with the 252nd overall pick in the eighth round by the San Francisco Giants in the 2013 Major League Baseball draft, Horan is currently playing for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in the Northwest League.
