BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech redshirt-junior Tyler Horan was honored on Thursday as a Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American, a second team outfielder, as announced by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

With his selection, Horan becomes the 14th Hokie to be named an All-American (20 overall selections) and is the first Tech player in 10 years to earn either a first or second team honor. Two players were named to three teams in 2003 – Matt Dalton (first team) and Marc Tugwell (two second teams).

He was one of 10 players selected to the team from the ACC, with one being named a first teamer, five second teamers and four third team honorees.

Horan’s exploits certainly could not go unnoticed as he leads the team in many offensive categories, which includes batting (.349), hits (84), doubles (24), triples (4), home runs (11), total bases (149) and slugging (.618).

He is one of three Hokies to start in every game this season (58) and is the only Hokie with at least 50 runs scored (54) and RBI (50), which are both second on the team. He is the first Tech player since 2010 to reach at least 50 in each – three players did it back then.

Horan and the rest of the No. 16 Virginia Tech Hokies will open NCAA regional play on Friday, with a 5:30 p.m. game against Connecticut at English Field.
