The sophomore now moves on to the academic all-america ballot

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Sophomore catcher Mark Zagunis has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District III First Team for his efforts in both the classroom and on the diamond.

Zagunis currently holds a .306 batting average and has started in every game this season for the Hokies. He leads the teams with 48 runs scored, a .413 on-base percentage and 16 stolen bases.

He is the only Tech player to have more than 40 runs scored and 40 RBI (41, second on the team) and is also the only player that is in double figures in multi-hit (14), multi-run (16) and multi-RBI (12) games.

The Cinnaminson, N.J., native owns a 3.35 GPA while majoring in sociology at Virginia Tech.

As a First-team Academic All-District honoree, Zagunis now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
