The series: Tech continues its 120th season of baseball this weekend with a three-game ACC series against the Maryland Terrapins in College Park, Md.

Facing the Terrapins: The Hokies have faced Maryland a total of 57 times with the Terrapins holding a 33-23-1 overall mark in the series. However, Tech has taken control of the series since it became a member of the ACC, owning a 12-6 mark since 2005 and that includes a 7-2 mark - and a pair of sweeps for the Hokies - in College Park, Md., and a 10-2 mark overall in the last 12 meetings.

Not too much history in Maryland: Tech hasn’t played too many games in the state of Maryland - just 38 total with 31 against the Terrapins. All-time, the Hokies are 15-22-1 in the state, but have won seven straight. Since 1939, Tech has played Towson once (1987) and Georgetown three times (2002), other than the Terps (25 times) in Maryland.

According to Warren: The website WarrenNolan.com, so far, has the Hokies playing the second toughest schedule in all of Division I baseball (vs. only DI opponents), behind only Florida in three different categories. Tech’s strength of schedule is .6082 to Florida’s .6469, while its opponents’ winning percentage is .6437 to the Gators’ .6946. Lastly, the Hokies’ opponents have compiled 849 wins trailing only Florida’s 896 (does not including wins against the team).

A closer look at the opponents: Of the Hokies’ 38 games played this season, only seven of the teams are currently under .500 (Tennessee accounts for two games though). Of those eight games Tech has played against teams currently under .500, only two have less than 17 wins entering the weekend, opposed to 26 of them already with 20 wins - 17 have at least 25 wins. The Hokies’ next eight games are against teams that have at least 20 wins already.
