BLACKSBURG, Va. - The summer is winding down and students are starting to make their way back to campus in preparation for the 2012-13 academic year. However, one Virginia Tech returning baseball player still has a chance at making history.

Rising redshirt-junior Tyler Horan, who has already had a fullfilling summer vacation so far, plays for the Wareham Gatemen in the Cape Cod League and just yesterday tied a 24-year-old league wood-bat record for home runs in a single season with his 16th round tripper of the summer. His numbers for the Gatemen will not win him the CCL triple crown, but are certainly close - currently second in both average (.349) and RBI (39).

The Gatemen have two games remaining in the regular season before the playoffs and Horan has an opportunity to surpass Brewster Whitecap's Dave Staton, who set the record back in 1988. Click here for a recap of yesterday's game and to hear the Gatemen's broadcast of Horan's blast.

A complete recap of all the Hokies' summer league numbers will be released after all league's seasons are complete, but a sneak peak includes two players helping the Baltimore Redbirds to the 2012 Cal Ripken League Championship (release here) with one being named MVP, while five Hokies were also named All-Stars.
