BLACKSBURG, Va. - After leading the New England Collegiate Baseball League with 11 home runs and 35 RBI, rising redshirt-sophomore Tyler Horan was named to the Perfect Game USA Summer Collegiate All-America Team as a second team selection in the outfield.
Playing for the Danbury Westerners, Horan finished with a .341 average which was second on the team, but sixth overall in the league. He had 44 hits, including seven doubles, scored 26 runs and stole seven bases. His 11 home runs tied the team’s single-season record set by Mark Malaska, who reached the mark in 1988, and won a World Series ring with the Red Sox in 2004.
Horan was one of five players from the NECBL to be named to the squad and was joined on the second team by utility player Chris Costantino (signed with the Cardinals/Laconia). On the third team was catcher Tom Murphy (Buffalo/Holyoke), first baseman Tim Kiene (Maryland/Newport) and starting pitcher Jacob Lee (Arkansas State/Newport).
Horan and Kiene were joined by Wake Forest’s Mac Williamson (Harrisonburg/Valley League), a first team outfielder, and N.C. State’s Chris Overman (Harwich/Cape Cod League), a third team relief pitcher, as the only returning ACC players to be selected.
