BLACKSBURG, Va. - Following his successful season in which he became the first Hokie since 1996 to hit more than 14 home runs and post a slugging percentage of more than .700, sophomore outfielder Andrew Rash has been named to his third postseason team, this time earning a spot on the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA All-Atlantic Region First Team, announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Thursday.
Rash led the team in batting (.335), home runs (18), RBI (53), total bases (135), slugging percentage (.707) and on-base percentage (.416) and was tied for the team lead with hit by pitch (10). He was second on the team in runs scored (49) and tied for second in doubles (17).
He adds this honor to his All-ACC First Team selection, just the second Hokie ever named (Austin Wates, 2010), and his All-ACC Academic honor.
With just a handful of games left, among the nation's leaders, Rash was in the top 150 in eight categories, which includes overall totals in home runs (ninth), slugging percentage (11th), total bases (55th) and RBI (99th) and per game average in home runs (sixth), RBI (45th), runs (87th) and doubles (129th).
In regards to Tech, Rash's numbers approached Kevin Barker's 1996 campaign in which he hit 20 home runs and slugged .792.
Rash was one of four outfielders named to the ABCA's first team, joined by James Ramsey of Florida State, Daniel Aldrich of the College of Charleston and Georgia Southern's Victor Roache.
