KINGSTON, R.I. – Behind the strong pitching effort of Joe Parsons and the Virginia Tech offense showing signs of life, the Hokies posted an 8-1 victory over Boston College in ACC action at Bill Beck Field, Sunday to conclude the conference series with the Eagles.

Parsons threw a career-high eight frames, Tony Balisteri scored a career-high four runs and Ronnie Shaban knocked in a season-high four runs for the Hokies who improved to 14-12 overall and get their first ACC win in nine tried. Boston College won the series, but drops to 10-11, 4-5 in the conference.

For the third time this season, but just the first time since Tech returned from Myrtle Beach, S.C., it started a game before 1 p.m. It was actually an 11:33 first pitch this morning for the Hokies, and the last time they started before noon, they defeated Tennessee Tech, 11-9 in their second game of the year. They are now 3-0 when starting before 1 p.m. also beating Indiana, 4-2, in the first game of the season.

Tech started the Sunday contest the same way as it did Saturday, with Balisteri scoring the first run of the game in the top of the first. He led off the game with a single, stole second and scored on an RBI double off the bat of Shaban.

The same duo plated the second Hokie run of the day in the top of the third. Balisteri reached on a one-out error and a batter later, stole second before scoring on Shaban’s triple into right center. He came home on a Tim Smalling RBI double and Matt Blow brought home Smalling with an infield single.

With a 4-0 lead, Tech starter Parsons retired the side in order in the bottom of the third, but allowed a back-to-back singles – with a stolen base in between – to the Eagles as they put their only run of the day on the scoreboard.

Shaban came through with another RBI double in the fifth inning, this time plating Michael Seaborn, who reached base with a one-out single and stole second. The run was with his team-leading 27^th run of the season, while with the three RBI, Shaban now has 24 for the year.

Parsons continued his strong effort through eight frames, allowing just two hits, two walks, the one run in the fourth and struck out four. He won his team-leading fourth game of the season with the outing and Shaban finished the game in the ninth with a perfect inning.

Virginia Tech will get back on the diamond with a mid-week game against Radford. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at English Field – a game that can be heard on 101.7 FM.
