BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Grey team used a 12-hit attack to defeat the White team, 7-2, Sunday afternoon in the decisive third game of the 2010 Hokie Fall World Series. The White team had evened the series Friday night with a 6-1 victory. Chad Morgan (r-Fr., Springfield, Va.) was named the series Most Valuable Player.
In Game 3, Brent Zimmerman (So.., Cooper City, Fla.) led the Grey offense with four hits, followed by Morgan with a hit, two walks and an RBI. Colin O’Keefe (Fr., Waterford, Conn.) picked up the win, while Eddie Campbell (Fr., Bridgewater, Mass.) suffered the loss.
After dropping the opening game of the series, 7-6, on Thursday evening, the White team struck for six runs early, including a three-run home run from Johnny Morales (Jr., Bellflower, Calif.) to cruise to a 6-1 win. Ronnie Shaban (Jr., Mosely, Va.) and Chris Kay (Sr., Marietta, Ga.) picked up two hits each in the win, while Morgan had two hits for the Grey. Jake Peeling (r-Jr., Waynesboro, Va.) worked the first four innings of the seven-inning contest for the win and Charlie McCann (r-So., Richmond, Va.) suffered the loss.
The Hokies will open the 2011 season on Feb. 19 against Indiana in the Caravelle Resort Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
