BLACKSBURG, Va. - The most attractive home schedule in the history of the program including games against NCAA participants Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Virginia, highlight the 2011 Virginia Tech baseball schedule. The Hokies are coming off one of the most successful seasons in the program’s history in which Tech finished 40-22, advanced to the NCAA tournament and ended the year ranked No. 20 in the Baseball America and No. 23 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) polls.

The 2011 schedule will be another challenging one, as the Hokies face 2010 College World Series participants Clemson and Florida State along with six other teams (Coastal Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Virginia) that made the 2010 NCAA Tournament. In addition, the schedule includes six teams that ended the year ranked in the several of the national polls.

“We look forward to the challenge that our 2011 schedule brings,” said Tech head coach Pete Hughes. “Our program needs to play a competitive schedule like this to continue to grow and move towards our goal of playing for a national championship in Omaha, Neb. As always, we will rely on the backing of Hokie Nation to come out to English Field and give us a true home field advantage.”

The 31-game home slate includes games against Niagara, Bryant, Hartford, North Carolina, Radford, Virginia, Florida State, North Carolina A&T and concludes with a 10-game home stand versus USC Upstate, James Madison, Clemson, VMI and Georgia Tech.

The road schedule begins with the season-opening trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the Coastal Carolina tournament with the remainder of the away schedule including USC Upstate, Florida Atlantic, Miami, Liberty, Boston College, Wake Forest, Radford, East Tennessee State, Maryland and Duke.

The ACC Championships are scheduled for May 25-29, 2011 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.
