GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference and Commissioner John D. Swofford announced the 2010 All-ACC Academic Baseball Team on Monday, and two Hokies – Ben Rowen and Michael Seaborn – have been named to the squad for the second straight year, while Anthony Sosnoskie has earned a spot on the team for third time in his career.
Sosnoskie recently finished his senior season with a .252 batting average, five home runs and 28 runs batted in. A public and urban affairs major, Sosnoskie played in 184 games over his four-year career, accumulating a .295 batting average with 21 homers and 143 RBIs. His best season came in 2009, when he hit .314 and lead the team with 51 RBIs. A native of Front Royal, Virginia, Sosnoskie was also named to the All-ACC Academic Team in 2007 and 2008.
Rowen completed his senior season as one of the best relief pitchers in the ACC, getting named to the All-ACC second team following the regular season. He set a new Virginia Tech record by making 38 relief appearances, a mark that also led the conference. A native of Ranchos Palos Verdes, California, Rowen pitched two seasons in Blacksburg after transferring from Los Angeles Harbor College. He led the Hokies in 2010 with a 2.67 earned run average and six saves. A human resource management major, Rowen was also named to the 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 3 Baseball Team.
Seaborn became a second-time honoree after starting all 62 of the Hokies’ games at second base as a redshirt junior. The finance major from Atlanta, Georgia, batted .283 with 12 doubles, seven home runs and 44 RBIs, the latter three of which set or equaled career highs. Seaborn also had an improved year in the field, setting career highs in putouts and assists, while committing a career low in errors.
To be eligible for consideration for the team, a student-athlete must have earned at least a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained at least a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
