CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Tech’s Austin Wates has been voted to the 2010 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA All-Atlantic Region Team, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced on Thursday.
Wates, a junior outfielder who was drafted in the third round by the Houston Astros earlier this month, was a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honoree after a season in which he led the Hokies – and ranked second in the league – with a .382 batting average. He also paced the team with five triples, 18 stolen bases, 36 walks and a .491 on-base percentage.
The Richmond, Virginia, native also was voted to the ACC All-Tournament Team and the NCAA All-Columbia Regional Team after serving as the Hokies’ offensive leader during their postseason run.
