GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech baseball players Steve Domecus, Austin Wates and Justin Wright were named to the 2010 ACC All-Tournament Team on Sunday afternoon following the conference championship game that saw Florida State defeat NC State.
Only one team had more players selected to the 11-man team than the Hokies, as NC State had four honorees, including tournament MVP Harold Riggins. Both Miami and Florida State placed two players on the squad.
Domecus was voted the best catcher in the tournament after hitting .357 (5-for-14) with four runs scored, two RBIs, two doubles, a home run and a stolen base.
Wates was selected as one of the three outfielders after leading the Hokies with a .455 (5-for-11) batting average. He scored four runs, drove in three and stole two bases. He was also hit by four pitches and added a home run.
Wright was one of only two pitchers selected to the team after turning in the most dominating performance of the tournament. The left-hander threw a complete-game four-hitter to lift Tech over Georgia Tech on Thursday, falling three strikeouts short of the tournament record after fanning a career-high 15 Yellow Jackets.
Virginia Tech finished second in Division B with a 2-1 record.
