Baseball program holding online auction through Friday
Supporters not attending 'Baseball Night in Blacksburg' still have a chance to win items

BLACSKBURG, Va. – Fans and supporters of Virginia Tech baseball who won’t be able to attend Friday evening’s ‘Baseball Night in Blacksburg’ still have a chance to bid on and win various sports memorabilia items that will be up for auction at the event.

The Virginia Tech baseball team has made available a list of items that are currently up for auction at http://www.hokiesports.com/auction/, with proceeds going toward Virginia Tech baseball and its effort to improve various aspects of the program.

In the past, the silent auction for autographed baseballs, game-worn jerseys, and other items of that ilk from both the Virginia Tech and professional levels has been conducted at the event, with winners being notified at the end of the night. This year, the Hokies have added a new wrinkle to the fold.

Available now, the online portion of the auction is accessible here on hokiesports.com. All 24 of the items that will be a part of the silent auction at ‘Baseball Night in Blacksburg’ are available for viewing online. If interested in winning an item, one may place a maximum bid on that item that they would be willing to pay. At the close of the online auction on Friday at 3 p.m., the highest bid for each item will then be taken to the silent auction in Lane Stadium.

Much like eBay, the maximum bid for each item from the online auction will not be visible to bidders in attendance at the silent auction. If an in-person bidder puts down a bid at the auction that is less than the maximum online bid for that item, then a representative from the baseball program will automatically place a bid $10 higher for the online bidder as long as that figure is equal to or lower than the maximum online bid.

However, unlike eBay, the bidder from the online portion cannot increase their bid unless they are at ‘Baseball Night in Blacksburg’ in person. Whatever bid the online auction ends at will be the final figure from the online bidder.

Should an online bidder end up with the winning bid, he/she will be contacted by the baseball staff about how to complete the transaction.

Again, visit http://www.hokiesports.com/auction/ to get started. Registration must be completed first at http://www.hokiesports.com/auction/register/

Further questions about the process can be directed to Mike Gambino at (540) 231-3098.
