BLACKSBURG – On senior day at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Friday afternoon, the Virginia Tech women’s tennis team could not stop No. 3 Georgia Tech from winning its fifth straight, as the Hokies fell 4-1 to the Yellow Jackets.

The Hokies (12-10, 3-10 ACC) battled in doubles action, getting some momentum in the first match that finished. Tech got it going on court three, winning by a score of 6-4 behind the pair of Katherine Butler and Sarah Baron. But the Yellow Jackets (19-4, 11-2 ACC) found their groove on courts one and two, with both of their ranked units winning (6-2 on court one, 6-3 on court two).

To kick off singles play, all six first sets were slim two-point victories. Georgia Tech earned five of the six wins in the beginning, as Caroline Daxhelet earned a 6-4 nod for Tech. The Belgium native would go on to get the win on court two, knocking off No. 73 Kenya Jones, who had won 10 out of her last 11 matches. The win for Daxhelet marked her first win over a ranked opponent this season.

Nika Kozar, a freshman, took it to 7-5 in the first set on court three before falling in the second set 6-4 and fellow freshman Nina Sorkin fell 6-4, 6-2 on court four, concluding Tech’s final match of the regular season at home.

The Hokies celebrated three seniors on the team, with taking pictures and honoring the trio of Baron, Butler and Daxhelet before the match. The pictures are available to view by clicking here.

Tech will wrap up the regular season on Sunday at No. 4 Duke in Durham, North Carolina at noon ET.
