Hokies host No. 3 Georgia Tech, travel to No. 4 Duke

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team matches up against No. 3 Georgia Tech on Friday at 3 p.m. from Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The Hokies will then travel to Durham, North Carolina to go up against No. 4 Duke on Sunday at noon.

THE HOKIES (12-9, 3-9 ACC)
Virginia Tech fell to No. 17 Miami 4-0 on the road over the weekend. The Hurricanes won three singles matches and took the doubles matches 2-0. Caroline Daxhelet had forced a third set on court two, but the match went unfinished once the win was decided.

Novotna remains ranked No. 63 in the ITA standings. She has an overall record of 22-9 heading into the Georgia Tech match. Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin have the Hokies' best doubles record, owning a 14-6 tally this season.

THE YELLOW JACKETS (18-4, 10-2 ACC)
The third-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team enters this weekend on a four-game win streak and has won nine out of its last ten games. Last time out, Georgia Tech defeated Boston College 6-1. The Yellow Jackets won all three singles sets and five out of six doubles sets in route to victory over the Eagles.

Georgia Tech senior Paige Hourigan is ranked 12th in the singles ITA standings. Sophomore Kenya Jones and Hourigan are currently ranked second in the doubles ITA.

THE BLUE DEVILS (19-2, 11-1 ACC)
The fourth-ranked Duke women’s tennis team is on a three-game win streak and have won 13 of its last 14 games. Duke will face its rival No. 1 North Carolina on Friday before it hosts Tech on Sunday. The Blue Devils dominated Pittsburgh on Sunday winning 7-0.

Duke senior Samantha Harris and freshman Kelly Chen enter the weekend ranked sixth in the doubles ITA rankings. Harris is also ranked fourth nationally in singles.

UP NEXT: The Hokies will travel to Cary, North Carolina for the ACC Tournament. The first round is set to begin on Wednesday, April 25 with game times still to be determined.
