Tech drops match to No. 1 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision on the road at the nation’s top-ranked North Carolina on Sunday afternoon at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
UNC (17-2, 6-1 ACC) took the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Tech’s (11-5, 2-5 ACC) Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin were battling and tied at 4-4 on court three when the point was decided.
In singles, Carolina filled the singles’ lineup with ranked individuals, winning five of the six in straight sets to secure the team victory.
On court two, Caroline Daxhelet went to a super tiebreak against 20th-ranked Alle Sanford. After giving up the first set 6-4, Daxhelet came back strong in the second to win it 6-3. In the tiebreak, Sanford secured it 10-3.
Katherine Butler played a pair of close sets on court five, but fell to No. 47 Jessie Aney 7-5, 6-4.
The Hokies return to Blacksburg for a pair of weekend matches beginning with Boston College on Friday, March 30 at 30 p.m. Tech will host NC State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
