Tech falls to Notre Dame, 5-2

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The 36th-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team fell to Notre Dame 5-2 on Friday afternoon at Eck Tennis Pavilion.

Tech (10-3, 1-3 ACC) fell behind after Notre Dame (6-3, 2-1 ACC) secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three.

Notre Dame claimed wins on courts four and five to go up 3-0, but the Hokies got on the board with a win from No. 52 Natalie Novotna at the one as she downed Notre Dame’s Brooke Broda 6-4, 6-3.

Tech closed the gap even more, cutting it to 3-2 with a win from Elena Cerezo-Codina at three. She defeated the Irish’s Cameron Corse 7-5, 6-4.

Freshman Nina Sorkin battled against Ally Bojczuk at six, going into tiebreaks in both the first and second sets. In the opening set, Bojczuk won it in the tiebreak 7-6(4). The two went back and forth the whole way in the second set and were in a tightly contested tiebreak match in which the Irish player held on to win it 7-6(8) to secure the win for Notre Dame.

On court two, Caroline Daxhelet also battled, going to three sets against Allison Miller. After giving up the first set 4-6, Daxhelet came back to win the second 6-3. Miller rallied in the third to win it 6-3.

The Hokies remain on the road, traveling to No. 49 Louisville for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, March 18.
