NORFOLK, Va. – The 45th-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team picked up its second win of the weekend, defeating Tulane 6-1 on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference neutral site match at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Virginia.
Tech (10-2) got out to the early lead after nabbing the doubles point, giving up just one game in the three matches combined. Elena Cerezo-Codina and Caroline Daxhelet paired up on court one while Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin were on court three; both Tech duos shut out their foes 6-0. Katherine Butler and Natalie Novotna won the match at two 6-1.
The Hokies pulled ahead 2-0 with Sorkin recording her second shutout of the day as she rolled past Sofia Kurtz 6-0, 6-0 on court six. Cerezo-Codina claimed the match at three, defeating Ivone Alvaro 6-1, 6-2, to give the Hokies a 3-0 lead.
Freshman Nina Sorkin on the great weekend, picking up 2 Ws before heading out to continue the ACC slate next weekend.

Daxhelet clinched it at two while Kozar claimed the win at four, securing the team win for the Hokies. Daxhelet knocked off Laura Fabrizi 6-3, 6-1. Kozar defeated Christina Sisti 6-3, 6-2.
Tech’s 52nd-ranked Novotna claimed the final point of the day at the one. After winning the first set 6-4, Novotna gave up the second to Sade Atkinson in a close 7-5. In the super tiebreak, Novotna came back to win it 10-7.
The Hokies will remain on the road for their next two matches, traveling to Notre Dame on Friday, March 16 for a noon match. Tech will also face 44th-ranked Louisville on Sunday, March 18 at 1 p.m.
