No. 30 Hokies fall to No. 12 Wake, 5-2

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The 30th-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team fell to No. 12 Wake Forest, 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Wake (9-4, 1-2 ACC) secured the doubles point to take the early lead on the Hokies (8-2, 1-2 ACC).

The Deacs won the three needed singles match to secure the team win with victories on courts two, three and five. Freshman Nina Sorkin got the Hokies on the board as she knocked off M.C. Meredith with straight set scores of 6-4, 6-2 at the six.

Fellow freshman Nika Kozar also secured a point for the Hokies, taking the match on court four where she won the opening set 6-3 over Anna Ulyashchenko. The Wake player came back to win the second 6-4, but Kozar rallied in the super tiebreak to win it 10-6.

Virginia Tech will be back on the court for a non-conference 1 p.m. match on Friday, March 9 at No. 35 Old Dominion.
