Hokies into singles semifinals at ITA Regional

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech’s Elena Cerezo-Codina and Natalie Novotna continued strong play on Monday at the 2017 ITA Atlantic Region Women’s Tennis Championships, advancing into the semifinals of the singles draw.

Cerezo-Codina took care of business with a quick straight set win over William & Mary’s 6-3, 6-2 to move into the next round. The Tech senior will face rival Virginia’s 34th-ranked Rosie Johanson on Tuesday.

Novotna, ranked 56th, opened the match with a 6-2 win over Old Dominion’s Natalie Vlasova, but the Monarchs player rallied to win the second 6-1. In the final set, Novotna answered to take the match 6-2. In the semifinals, Novotna will square off against William & Mary’s Clara Tanielian.

The Hokies will wrap up the ITA Regional Championships on Tuesday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Start time is set for 11 a.m.
