Hokies wrap up first day of qualifying draw at ITA All-American

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team wrapped up the opening day of the qualifying rounds at the 2017 ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California.

Tech’s 56th-ranked Natalie Novotna picked up a win in the first round of the singles qualifying draw, defeating Rice’s Michael Haet with straight set scores of 6-4, 6-4.

In the second round, Novotna squared off against a fellow ACC foe in 22nd-ranked Jessie Aney of North Carolina. The Tar Heel player claimed the win over Novotna 6-3, 6-3.

On the doubles side, the Hokies’ 53rd-ranked Elena Cerezo-Codina and Caroline Daxhelet fell to Northwestern’s Erin Lamer and Lee Or, 8-2.

Cerezo-Codina and Daxhelet will be back on the court on Wednesday morning in the consolation draw of doubles facing Texas Tech’s 21st-ranked Gabriela Talaba and Felicity Maltby.
