Hokies fall short in day two of Big 5 Challenge

Tech wraps up Big 5 Challenge on Sunday

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team struggled against a tough round of opponents on day two of the Big 5 Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas

Elena Cerezo-Codina and Katherine Butler battled to a super tiebreak before falling to their opponents. Cerezo-Codina dropped a hard-fought decision to Georgia’s #105 Marta Gonzalaz after winning the first set 6-4, Cerezo-Codina gave up the second 4-6. In the third, Gonzalez was up 3-0 when Cerezo-Codina retired.

Butler also had a close match against a Georgia foe, falling to the Bulldog’s Mariana Gould by a score of 3-6, 7-6, 6-0.

In doubles, Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin put up a fight against Georgia’s Annettee Goulak and Vivian Wolff, but ultimately fall with a score of 7-5.

Play will continue tomorrow in the championships beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET.
