Fusinato, Novotna remain in the Oracle/ITA National Rankings

BLACKSBURG – Senior Francesca Fusinato and freshman Natalie Novotna of the Virginia Tech women’s tennis team remain in the top 125 in this week’s Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate Tennis Women’s Division I National Rankings, released on Tuesday afternoon.

Novotna moves up two spots to No. 97 in this week’s ITA top-125 poll. The Vysoka nad Labem, Czech Republic, native holds a team-best 11-1 mark, primarily playing at the No. 3 position. Additionally, Novotna shows two wins at the No. 2 slot and three victories at the No. 4 slot. Last weekend, Novotna suffered her first dual-match loss of the season, dropping a hard-fought three-set battle to Wake Forest’s Emma Davis by a score of 6-7 (7-2), 6-2, 6-4 on court two.

Fusinato also checks in at No. 108 in this week’s ITA top-125 poll. The Feltre Belluno, Italy, native has won five of her last seven matches at the No. 1 slot, upsetting three ranked opponents in the process. Most recently, Fusinato suffered a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 setback to Wake Forest’s No. 50 Kimmy Guerin. Of note, Fusinato has topped five ranked opponents this season.

Up next, the Hokies (7-6, 0-4 ACC) will hit the road once again, as the squad swings through North Carolina for a pair of ACC matches. Tech will square off against North Carolina on Friday, March 24, followed by a match against Duke on Sunday, March 26. The match against the Tar Heels will start at 3 p.m., while the contest against the Blue Devils will begin at noon.
