“We are excited to compete tomorrow against Old Dominion,” said coach Terry Ann Zawacki-Woods. “Every match we play is an opportunity for us to continue to improve throughout the process of the season, and I’m looking forward to a great team performance tomorrow.”

Most recently, Tech rallied to win four singles matches en route to a 4-3 win over West Virginia on Feb. 18 in Morgantown, West Virginia. The win moved the Hokies to 6-2 overall on the season. Natalie Novotna, Francesca Fusinato and Elena Cerezo-Codina each won in singles to give Tech the lead, and then Caroline Daxhelet won 7-5, 6-3 to seal the match for the Hokies.

Of note, Novotna has only given up eight games in the last three matches, and she is one of two Hokies undefeated this season. The Czech Republic native shows a team-best 7-0 mark, holding a 1-0 record at the No. 2 slot and a 3-0 record on courts three and four.

Additionally, Daxhelet is the lone Hokie to check in at No. 92 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Top 100 Singles Poll. Katherine Butler and Fusinato also own a team-best 4-2 doubles mark on court two.

Old Dominion (6-2) is coming off a busy weekend of three matches in four days. The Monarchs walked away with two victories, ending with a 4-3 win over Penn on Feb. 19.

The Monarchs also boast two players nationally ranked by the ITA, with Holly Hutchinson coming in at No. 68 and Borislava Botusharova sitting at No. 112. No. 68 Hutchinson is 5-1 on the season and was most recently named the Conference USA Player of the Week. No. 112 Botsharova also holds a 6-1 mark on the year. Of note, the doubles pairing of Marijana Novakovic and Botusharova show a team-best 6-1 mark, going 3-0 in last weekend’s matches.

Following the match on Saturday, Tech will hit the road for a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference matches. The team will square off against No. 11 Georgia Tech on Friday, March 3 at 3 p.m., followed by a match against in-state rival No. 50 Virginia on Sunday, March 5 at 12 p.m.
