Three Hokies score Oracle/ITA national rankings
The doubles tandem of Elena Cerezo-Codina and Caroline Daxhelet move up eight spots

BLACKSBURG – Senior Francesca Fusinato and juniors Caroline Daxhelet and Elena Cerezo-Codina of the Virginia Tech women’s tennis team were included in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate Tennis Women’s Division I National Rankings released on Wednesday afternoon.

Fusinato, who ranked No. 42 in the fall, checks in at No. 66 for the first time this season. The Feltre Belluno, Italy, native holds a team-best 4-1 singles mark on court one and has recorded two wins over ranked opponents, upsetting East Tennessee State’s No. 95 Ioanna Markesini and Clemson’s No. 40 Ayan Broomfield, respectively.
Daxhelet comes in at No. 52, notching a victory over Purdue’s Alex Sabe in straight sets last weekend. She currently holds a 1-1 dual-match record on court three.
Additionally, Daxhelet and Cerezo-Codina move up eight spots and are ranked No. 51 after recording a 2-1 mark on court one so far this spring. The first doubles rankings were released on Jan. 4, as the junior duo previously checked in at No. 59.
The doubles tandem picked up wins over Troy (6-3) and Purdue (6-2), respectively, but fell to Clemson’s Broomfield and Marie Leduc, ranked No. 44 nationally, in the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 28. Daxhelet and Cerezo-Codina also were holding a 4-3 lead over Vanderbilt’s No. 53 Sydney Campbell and Christina Rosca, but the match was halted after the Commodores’ clinched the doubles point.
The Hokies (4-1) return home for a doubleheader against Marshall and Radford on Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The match against the Thundering Herd is set to begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Highlanders at 4 p.m.
