Catching up with Sansitha Nandakumar
Senior discusses her favorite places on campus and her overall experience at Tech
December 8, 2016
BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team boasts a roster of talented, skilled and interesting student-athletes. In an effort to learn more about their lives on and off the court, HokieSports.com will interview select Virginia Tech women’s tennis players each week.
This week, we sat down with senior Sansitha Nandakumar.
What differences are there from your hometown to Blacksburg?
Sansitha Nandakumar: There are not a lot of similarities, but there are a lot of differences. Weather is something that is totally different here. I never experienced snow until I came to Tech. In my hometown, the weather stays the same year round with a very mild difference in the temperature. Food is another major difference. Food is completely different. We have a very southern Indian food style.
Where are your favorite spots to go on campus?
SN: My favorite spots are Turner Place, the Duck Pond and the math empo as well as the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center and the Pylons.
What got you involved with tennis?
SN: My dad played tennis, and I used to go with him for fun, but I was interested in it as well.
If you could switch places with another Tech athlete, who would it be?
SN: Elena because I love the way she handles every play and never gives up.
Who do you look up to the most? Why?
SN: I look up to Justine Henin because she’s a fighter and she has always been an inspiration to me.
How has your time as a Hokie been so far?
SN: It has been a wonderful experience, and I am so proud to be a Hokie. I enjoy winning every match as a Hokie.
With your last season just weeks away, what will you miss the most about Virginia Tech?
SN: I love the food at Tech; Deets ice cream, West End wraps and Turner Qdoba and Hibachi.
What has tennis done for you?
SN: Tennis has been a part of my routine my whole life and it always will be. It has given me everything. The opportunity of becoming a Hokie with a full scholarship is the best that I got.
