CARY, N.C.- The 31^st-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will face No. 28 Wake Forest in the second round of the 2016 ACC Women’s Tennis Championship on Thursday at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. The Hokies drew the No. 9 seed for the tournament while the Demon Deacon’s claimed the No. 8 spot, both receiving a bye for Wednesday's first round action. The winner of Thursday’s match will move on to face top-seeded North Carolina in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Tech and Wake Forest have met once this year back on March 5^th with Wake claiming a 5-2 win in Winston-Salem. The Hokies found themselves on the wrong end of several competitive matches with highly-ranked opponents to end the year and are looking to make a statement at this years tournament after advancing to the quarterfinals in Cary last season.

Francesca Fusinato came in at No. 56 in the latest ITA singles rankings to end the regular season while Elena Cerezo-Codina also snuck into the poll at No. 125. Caroline Daxhelet let Tech in wins this season with a 17-5 record while Raluca Mita wasn’t far behind with a mark of 15-5, including going 7-3 in her last 10 matches.

The Demon Deacons (18-8, 7-7 ACC) ended the regular season with a loss 5-2 loss to N.C. State on Sunday on the road. Wake Forest's 18-8 regular season finish with an 8-8 mark against ranked teams has the Deacons ranked No. 28 after starting the season at No. 71. Kimmy Guerin is Wake’s only representative in the national ITA singles rankings at No. 64. She is 15-9 at the No. 1 position with seven wins over ranked opponents on the spring.
