No. 30 Tech welcomes No. 2 North Carolina, No. 15 Virginia to Blacksburg
Hokies host pair of important conference matches as regular season winds down

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 30th-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will host two of the nation’s top teams in No. 2 North Carolina and No. 15 Virginia on Friday and Sunday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg.

The Hokies (14-5, 7-3 ACC) have won four in a row and 12 of their last 14 matches dating back to the end of January. Most recently, Tech took down then-No. 16 Georgia Tech last Friday after trailing 3-0 to give the program another signature victory to add to the list.

No. 2 North Carolina (22-2, 10-0 ACC) is enjoying another season as one of the nation’s most elite programs. The Tar Heels’ top three singles players are nationally ranked, including No. 1 Hayley Carter, No. 30 Whitney Kay and No. 62 Jessie Aney. Carter and Kay also team up to form the nation’s top-ranked doubles duo as well.

Last time Francesca Fusinato faced the nation’s top player in Clemson’s Joana Eidukonyte, she won in two sets in what might have been the biggest singles victory in regular season program history. She’ll have the opportunity to take down No. 1 again on Friday in UNC’s Carter. The match is set for 2:30 p.m. and will feature free t-shirts for the first 50 fans.

No. 15 Virginia (11-9, 6-5 ACC) will be the Hokies’ guest for Senior Day on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Blacksburg. The Cavaliers most recently dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 16 Georgia Tech on Sunday after the Yellow Jackets dropped their match in Blacksburg just two days before. Their lineup also features three ranked players in No. 4 Danielle Collins, No. 16 Julia Elbaba (who was upset by Tech’s Ilinca Stoica last season) and No. 111 Stephanie Nauta.

Senior day festivities will begin just before the match, so make sure to arrive early. Both matches can be followed via live stats at here.
