
BLACKBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team and head coach Terry Ann Zawacki-Woods have announced the slate for the 2014-15 season. The schedule features six fall tournaments, including the return of the ITA Atlantic Regional to Blacksburg.
The Hokies begin their fall season this weekend as they travel to UNC Wilmington to compete Sept. 12-14. Following the opening weekend, the team will return to action to host the Hokie Fall Invite on Oct. 3-5. Prior to the home event, Tech’s two ranked players, No. 64 Ilinca Stoica and No. 87 Francesca Fusinato, will head to California to play in the 2014 Riviera/ ITA Women’s All-American Championships beginning on Sept. 27.
Tech will remain at home and once again play host for the ITA Atlantic Regional, running Oct. 17-21. Following the regional, Hokies will compete in the USTA Clay Court Championships in Orlando, Florida before concluding the fall schedule on the weekend of Nov. 7-9 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina at the Kitty Harrison Invitational.
To begin the spring season, Tech will host Radford and Davidson on Sunday, Jan. 18 before heading to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for a tournament including Syracuse, Princeton and host Alabama.
The Hokies will return home the weekend of Feb. 6 to host Old Dominion, Coastal Carolina and Morgan State in the three-day span. Tech will begin conference play the following weekend when it heads to Clemson, South Carolina on Friday, Feb. 20.
After hosting Marshall on Sunday, Feb. 22, the Hokies travel to North Carolina for a tough weekend of competition against Duke and North Carolina. Tech will welcome Florida State and Wake Forest on March 7 and 8 before it works its way north, making stops at Pittsburgh and Boston College on March 20 and 22, respectively.
The Hokies will play their last non-conference match when they host VCU on Saturday, March 28, and will get right back to ACC competition the very next day as Miami comes to town.
Tech will wrap up the regular season playing four of their last six matches at home. After traveling to Georgia Tech, the Hokies will host Norte Dame, NC State and Syracuse in the next week’s span. In the final stretch, the Hokies travel to Virginia on Friday, April 17, before closing the regular season at home with a match against Louisville on Sunday, April 19.
The Hokies will look to build on last year’s second-round performance in the ACC Tournament, which will be played in Cary, North Carolina, April 25-28.
