SKILLMAN, N.J. – Sophomore Francesca Fusinato and junior Ilinca Stoica have each earned preseason rankings according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Both players have also been selected to play in the 2014 Riviera/ ITA Women’s All-American Championships, hosted by UCLA on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Fusinato, who enters the fall season ranked No. 87 in the nation, got her college career out to an impressive start last fall when she advanced all the way to the semifinals of the ITA Atlantic Regional. The Feltre, Belluno, Italy native carried that strong play into the spring as she began the year going 11-4 before an injury pulled her out of action.
Stoica will begin fall play ranked No. 64 in the country. She knocked off four ranked opponents last season, including a win over Duke’s Beatrice Capra, who was ranked No. 2 at the time. The Piatra Neamt, Romania native went 6-1 at the No. 2 spot last year. Stoica, as well as Fusinato, were both named to the All-ACC Third Team following last season.
