BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team and head coach Terry Ann Zawacki-Woods announced the addition of four newcomers for the fall of 2014. Elena Cerezo-Codina, Lena Pacholski, Katherine Butler and Sloan Barton will join the Hokies this fall.

"We are very excited to add Sloan, Katherine, Elena, and Lena to our program next fall,” Zawacki-Woods said of her newcomers. “All are very accomplished student-athletes, both on and off the court and will add tremendous depth to our team. We are looking forward to their arrival on campus and can't wait to watch them continue to develop during their time in Blacksburg as Hokies."

Cerezo-Codina hails from Almeria, Spain and trained for four years at the Madrid Tennis Federation while attending high school at Ortega y Gasset. She has notched numerous victories over top 400 WTA players, while also ranking as high as 984 in singles play and 909 in doubles by WTA/ITA. Cerezo-Condina has also boasted a No. 31 ranking in the Spanish women’s division.

Pacholski will join the Hokies from Fuveau, France. The daughter of a former French national tennis player, Pacholski has held a national ranking since the age of 14 and is currently the No. 15 rated player in France. She has competed in elite French national tournaments as well as ITF international events, reaching the quarterfinals at the 10K Macon, France and defeating top 600 WTA competition.

Butler is the No. 3 player in her class in the state of North Carolina, hailing from Charlotte. She has been ranked as high as 42 nationally in her class by tennisrecruiting.net. Butler has competed for Myers Park High School as well as nationally. She has been a national open finalist twice and has numerous victories over Blue Chip top 30 players in her class.

Barton is a native of Camden Wyoming, Del., and attends Caesar Rodney High School. The 2014 Delaware Female Athlete of the Year helped her team claim the state championship as a senior. A member of the junior team for nationals, Barton was named Outstanding Female by the Delaware Women’s Alliance.
