BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on Notre Dame on Friday afternoon before hosting Boston College on Sunday morning in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
The Hokies (11-9, 3-7 ACC) split their two matches last weekend. Tech topped Coastal Carolina on Thursday afternoon 6-1. However, the Hokies dropped their match against No. 26 Georgia Tech 6-1. Sansitha Nandakumar put forth a strong effort as she went 2-0 on the weekend.
Tech checked in at No. 64 in this week’s ITA rankings, which is two spots up from last week’s No. 66 mark. Francesca Fusinato brings her No. 96 ranking to the weekend, while Ilinca Stoica will come to the matches with a No. 77 ranking.
Notre Dame (12-8, 5-6 ACC) tallied home wins over Maryland and Pittsburgh last weekend. The Irish dropped from No. 20 to No. 26 in this week’s rankings. Quinn Gleason leads Notre Dame with her No. 42 singles ranking. Gleason also shows up in the doubles rankings as she and Britney Sanders team up to be the No. 11 pair in the country.
Boston College (12-7, 4-5 ACC) also went 2-0 last weekend. The Eagles topped Wake Forest and N.C. State in a pair of home matches to add two ACC wins to their 2014 effort. Boston College boasts the No. 64 doubles pair of Jessica Wacnik and Lexi Borr.
The Hokies will open play on Friday against Notre Dame. The match on Sunday begins at 9:30 a.m. against Boston College in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
