BLACKSBURG, Va. — The No. 66 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team defeated Coastal Carolina 6-1 on Thursday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Tech jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with two doubles wins on courts 2 and 3. Rebecca Harris and Kelly Williford topped Maria Babayan and Amanda Malatek 8-4 at No. 3. Francesca Fusinato paired up with Sansitha Nandakumar to seal the doubles point for the Hokies with an 8-3 win over Romane Delay and Dominique De Wit at No. 2
Nandakumar also claimed the first singles point of the day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Malatek at No. 5. Raluca Mita added to the Hokies lead with her 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Romane Delay.
Carol Kahoun gave Tech the victory as she defeated Mila Majtan 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.
Williford kept things trending the Hokies’ way with her 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 2 slot over Honami Yazawa.
Coastal Carolina tallied a point at No. 4 as Babayan topped Isel Martinez-Marcos 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (7).
Ilinca Stoica added a final Hokie point to round out the day as she topped Libby Scott 6-4, 6(3)-7, 1-0 (6) at No. 1.
The Hokies return to action on Sunday as they host ACC opponent Georgia Tech at noon in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
