No. 58 Hokies travel to Coastal Carolina
Tech looks to bounce back after a week off

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 58 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team takes a break from conference play and travels to Coastal Carolina after a week off. The Hokies enter the weekend at 9-6 on the year after facing a pair of top North Carolina teams a weekend ago.

Sophomore Ilinca Stoica took the national rankings by storm this week after an impressive outing last weekend. Stoica went from unranked to No. 66 in the country after knocking off the No. 2 player in the nation, No. 1 Duke’s Beatrice Capra, in three sets to start the weekend off. She neared a win over the nation’s best player the very next day, when she took the first set but fell in the next two during Sunday’s match against No. 12 North Carolina.

Stoica took over the top spot for the injured Francesca Fusinato, who also moved up in the rankings this week to No. 75, despite not participating last weekend.

Freshman Sansitha Nandakumar had an impressive weekend against the two top conference teams, as she was the only Hokie to go 2-0 in singles action, playing from the No. 5 spot.

The Chanticleers enter the weekend of play at 10-2 on the year and 5-1 at home, but will face UNC Asheville on Saturday, before the Hokies come to town. Coastal Carolina began the year with seven straight wins and recent tacked on back-to-back wins in Orlando, Fla., last weekend.
