BLACKSBURG, Va. — The No. 55 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team returns to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center for two matches this weekend against Duke and North Carolina.

The Hokies will take on first-ranked Duke on Saturday, March 8 at noon, and then North Carolina, ranked 12th, will come to the Tennis Center on Sunday, March 9 at 1 p.m.

Tech took its first ACC road trip last weekend and split the two matches it played. On Friday, Feb. 28, the Hokies fell to Syracuse, 5-2. However, the team bounced back and topped Maryland on Sunday, March 2, 5-2. With the 1-1 weekend, Tech dropped from No. 48 to No. 55 in the ITA Rankings.

Duke comes to Blacksburg 11-1 and ranked No. 1. The Blue Devils’ only loss came against Virginia on Feb. 21. Duke has four players ranked in the ITA Rankings. They are led by second-ranked Beatrice Capra. Three of Duke’s doubles team appear in the rankings, with the fourth-ranked pair of Capra and Hanna Mar leading the way.

North Carolina brings an 11-3 record and No. 12 ranking to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Most recently, the Tar Heels fell to Duke 5-2 on March 2. Five Tar Heel players are ranked, and Jamie Loeb tops the ITA’s list in the No. 1 slot. North Carolina also has three doubles teams ranked, with Whitney Kay and Caroline Price topping the Tar Heel effort at No. 5.

The Hokies begin play on Satuday against Duke at noon in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
