BLACKSBURG, Va. — The No. 47 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team opens its ACC slate this weekend with matches against Pitt and No. 11 Clemson as well as a non-conference match against Radford.
Tech hosts Pitt on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Clemson will come to Burrows-Burleson on Sunday at 1 p.m. followed by Radford at 6 p.m.
The Hokies climbed the rankings this week as they moved into the No. 47 spot in a tie with Virginia Commonwealth. Francesca Fusinato stayed in the ITA rankings at No. 90.
The last time Tech was in action was a double-header on Feb. 8. The Hokies tallied a 6-1 win over ETSU and a 7-0 win over Morgan State in the home stand to improve their record to 6-2.
Pitt brings a 3-0 record to Blacksburg for their first ACC match. On Feb. 15, the Panthers topped cross-town rival Robert Morris 7-0. The trip to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center will be Pitt’s first road trip of the season.
Clemson enters the weekend ranked No. 11 in the latest ITA rankings. The Tigers have a 7-2 record which includes wins over No. 32 Tennessee, No. 11 Michigan, No. 15 Vanderbilt and No. 32 South Carolina. Clemson hosts Harvard on Friday before making the trip to Blacksburg. The Tigers boast four players in the ITA rankings with Yana Koroleva leading the way at No. 40. Clemson also has three ranked doubles teams led by No. 28 Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies.
Radford will round out the weekend for Tech as they bring their 1-3 record to town. Radford most recently fell to Navy 2-5 on Feb. 16. Their lone win came over Charlotte 4-1 on Jan. 24.
The Hokies begin play on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Pitt.
