BLACKSBURG, Va. — The No. 52 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team defeated East Tennessee State 6-1 on Saturday afternoon in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
ETSU forfeited the No. 3 doubles match, so the Hokies needed only one win in doubles to clinch the point, which came from the No. 1 duo of Francesca Fusinato and Raluca Mita. They topped Lyn Yee Choo and Salma Dahbi 6-2.
The Hokies picked up their second and third points from ETSU forfeits, as well. The Buccaneers conceded No. 5 and 6 singles, giving Tech a 3-0 lead.
Tech tallied the winning point at No. 2 singles as Ilinca Stoica took down Giulia Andreazza 6-2, 6-1.
Fusinato kept the Hokies unbeaten on the day as she fought off a late surge by Lyn Yee Choo at No. 1 to win 6-1, 6-4.
ETSU avoided the shutout, though, as Dahbi came back to defeat Sansitha Nandakumar 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5) at No. 4.
Tech quickly rebounded to add a sixth and final point with Kelly Williford’s 6-4, 6-2 win over Jessica Brumit at No. 3.
The Hokies return to action this evening to take on Morgan State at 5 p.n. in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
