WILLIAMSBURG, Va — The No. 52 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team took down No. 43 William & Mary 7-0 on Friday evening at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.

Tech got out to a quick start with a pair of 6-2 wins to claim the doubles point and take the early lead. The two Hokie seniors Tea Ivanovic and Isel Martinez-Marcos teamed up for the first win over Maria Belaya and Jackie Lee at No. 3.

The Hokies claimed the point when Francesca Fusinato and Raluca Mita defeated Nabila Farah and Leeza Nemchinov at No. 1

Junior Carol Kahoun tallied the first singles point for Tech with her 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Jackie Lee at No. 6. Mita was not far behind as she topped Sydney Smith 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 to put the Hokies one point away from a victory.

Tech added the deciding point with Martinez-Marcos’ 6-1, 6-1 win over Julia Casselbury 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4.

Tech was not done, though, and continued to add to the lead. Ilinca Stoica upset 89th-ranked Nemchinov 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Fusinato, ranked No. 82, added her first career win over a ranked opponent as she won 6-4, 6-1 against 65th-ranked Belaya at No. 1.

Kelly Williford completed the sweep as she defeated Farah 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3.

Tech improved to 3-2 on the year and returns to action on Sunday at noon for a trip to Marshall.
