BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The No. 68 Virginia Tech women's tennis team will host Miami and Florida State this weekend at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center for the season's final campaign before the ACC Tournament.
The Hokies traveled to Clemson and Georgia Tech last weekend. Tech fell to Clemson 2-5 on Saturday, April 13 and to Georgia Tech 0-4 on Sunday, April 14. Despite the 0-2 weekend, the Hokies climbed back in to the ITA rankings after falling out last weekend.
The weekend kicks off with Miami on Saturday, April 20 at 11 a.m. The Hurricanes bring a 16-4, 7-2 ACC record and a No. 10 ITA ranking to Blacksburg. Miami fell to North Carolina last Friday but rebounded to beat Duke and go 1-1 on the weekend. The Hurricanes have three ranked singles players in No. 53 Stephanie Wagner, No. 85 Kelsey Laurente and No. 112 Clementina Riobueno. Miami also has two ranked doubles teams in No. 39 Lina Lileikite/Stephanie Wagner and No. 84 Kelsey Laurente/Brittany Dubins.
Florida State will take on the Hokies on Sunday, April 21 at Noon. The Seminoles have a 12-7, 4-4 ACC record as they travel to Blacksburg. They will travel to Virginia before coming to Blacksburg. Florida State fell from No. 30 to No. 32 in this week's ITA rankings after falling to both Duke and North Carolina last weekend. The Seminoles also have three ranked singles players in No. 57 Daneika Borthwick, No. 106 Francesca Segarelli and No. 110 Amy Sargeant.
The Hokies look to pick up key wins this weekend in order to qualify for the ACC tournament and keep their NCAA tournament hopes alive.
