CLEMSON, S.C. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team fell to the No. 14 Clemson Tigers Saturday afternoon, 5-2, at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Tea Ivanovic and Kelly Williford earned points for the Hokies.
Clemson (11-6, 6-2 ACC) started the day winning the doubles point, but Williford took the first match in singles play, defeating Tristen Dewar, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 5 spot to give the Hokies (13-8, 2-6 ACC) their first point of the day.
The Tigers responded to the even score claiming three straight victories and clinching the match as two of their three nationally-ranked singles players earned wins on courts 2, 3 and 4.
Ivanovic battled until the very end as she was part of the only 3-set match of the day and claimed a 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (7-3), 1-0 (10-7) victory, but the match had already been decided in Clemson’s favor.
Tech will return to action on Sunday, April 14 at it takes on No. 19 Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
